LOCAL AREA
Here you’ll find a few personal highlights and recommendations for things to do while you are in the area.
FOSSILLING
On our very own doorstep – head West along the beach towards Golden Cap. Ignore the cliffs, any fossils found in the clay will be very fragile but instead keep your focus along the low water mark and once your eyes are trained, you’ll find belemnites and ammonites a plenty!
If unsuccessful, head over to the Charmouth and the Heritage Coast Centre to see their amazing fossil collections and find out how to discover your own fossils on the beach. Perhaps you might want to book a Guided Fossil Walk.
WALKING
You are really spoilt for choice in this area of outstanding natural beauty! Head West towards Golden Cap (30-45 mins) with Charmouth (2-2.5 hrs) and Lyme Regis (3-3.5 hrs) beyond. Or heading East to West Bay (1.5hrs) with Burton Bradstock (2.5 hrs) beyond.
If you don’t fancy the long walk back, the area is well served by local bus routes so you can catch a bus back to Chideock. X51 Service which serves Axminster to Dorchester or X53 Weymouth to Axminster
STAYING
We have three ensuite rooms here at The Anchor but if you are looking for self catering accommodation, a good local website to try is Bridport Cottages, offering rich search facilities, including availability, to find a great holiday cottage in our beautiful area, some of which are walking distance to us in nearby Chideock.
